Finding B2B leads is easier when you treat it as a process rather than a hunt. These seven steps work for most service and software businesses.
1. Define your ideal customer profile
Start with the customers you already serve well. Note their industry, company size, location and the problem that made them buy. Then list the job titles that make the buying decision and the titles that influence it. A tight profile saves more time than any tool.
2. Build a target account list
Turn the profile into a list of real companies. Good sources include industry associations, trade-show exhibitor lists, public business registers, company directories and LinkedIn Sales Navigator company searches. Check that each company is active and genuinely fits.
3. Find the right people at each account
For every company, identify the decision-maker and, where useful, one or two people who influence the decision. Match titles to your offer: a marketing service goes to a CMO or marketing director, not to the founder of a 500-person company.
4. Collect and verify contact details
Company websites, LinkedIn profiles and press pages show who works where. Add business email addresses and verify them before you send anything. Our guide on finding verified decision-maker emails explains how.
5. Prioritise your list
Not every lead deserves the same effort. Rank accounts by fit and timing, for example a recent hire, a funding announcement or a new product launch. Contact the best-fit accounts first.
6. Start conversations
Reach prospects through cold email, LinkedIn, phone or referrals. Keep each message relevant to the person’s role. Read how to run a cold email campaign for a step-by-step approach.
7. Track results and refine
Record every lead in a CRM and note which segments reply. If one industry or job title responds far better than the rest, narrow your profile around it and repeat.
How Lead Nexra collects and verifies leads
Our own process combines two ways of finding data. We search manually, using LinkedIn, company websites and business directories, and we use paid data tools to cover more ground. Every record is then checked by hand and validated with a paid email verification tool, so the data you receive is fresh and valid. We remove duplicates and invalid addresses and deliver the final list in a clean Google Sheet or Excel file.
After delivery you have two options. You can start a campaign yourself straight from the list, or you can ask us to run it, either through a paid sending platform or manually from your own company mailboxes. Read our cold email campaign guide and email list cleaning guide for the details. New to the topic? Start with what B2B lead generation is.
When it makes sense to outsource
Lead research is time-consuming and needs steady attention. Many teams outsource it when their reps spend more time researching than selling, when they need larger volumes than the team can handle, or when contact data is out of date. Before you hire anyone, prepare your ideal customer profile, a short description of your offer, any companies to exclude and the format you want the list in.
